Yesterday we started our unit on ratios. I always like to do something "fun" to get my students interested in a new unit. I usually use food (everyone likes food right?) This time I decided to use jelly beans (since it is spring) to demonstrate how to write ratios. I gave each student a handful of jelly beans and asked them to sort them in groups by color. After that, I demonstrated how we would use them to write ratios. Everyone was very excited to get started! I handed out the page of questions and everyone eagerly began. The best part about using food in a lesson is that you get to eat after you are done! Here is a link to this fun lesson!
